For a Fotuguan greenway visit in 2026, choose between a hillside walk and the separately managed Eling Skywalk before setting off. Chongqing’s construction authority records the 460-metre skywalk opening in November 2025, linking Fotuguan and Eling parks. Later reservation controls mean an old walk-in account is insufficient for planning access today.

Save 佛图关公园 for Fotuguan Park, 半山崖线步道 for the wider Banshan cliff-trail network and 鹅岭栈桥 for the Eling Skywalk. These names appear together in visitor material but do not describe one entrance or one set of operating rules. Knowing which experience you want prevents a scenic walk becoming an avoidable search for the wrong gate.

The attraction is the relationship between railway, hillside vegetation and the layered city. You can appreciate that relationship without hiking the entire network or reproducing a blossom photograph. This guide distinguishes the main choices and their evidence, while leaving current closures, booking availability and complete mobility access to a genuine pre-visit check.

Choose a specific part of the trail network

The city-management bureau’s February 2022 report explains that the Fotuguan section forms part of a larger cliff-trail network connecting several parks. Its older overall estimate is approximately 28.7 kilometres, with about 10.8 kilometres in Yuzhong. Those are network descriptions, not a sensible default distance for a casual visitor.

Choose the experience first. If your interest is the wooded hillside and railway setting, investigate the open Fotuguan public paths. If you specifically want the elevated link into Eling Park, check the skywalk’s admission arrangements and entrance. If the goal is the close street-level view of a train passing through a building, that belongs to the separate Liziba viewpoint visit.

Write the chosen destination in your map notes. Avoid a saved collection labeled simply “Eling/Liziba/Fotuguan,” which leaves the entrance decision until you arrive on a different road level. Our Chongqing road-level navigation guide explains why nearby pins can still require a substantial change of level. Use it to ask better route questions, rather than assuming every connection is downhill.

Understand what the Eling Skywalk added

The construction authority’s November 12, 2025 account records the skywalk’s opening that day. It describes a 460-metre steel walkway, with entry beside Fotuguan Park’s south gate and an exit beside Eling Park’s climbing corridor. The bridge supplies a particular connection and elevated viewpoint within the larger network.

This matters because earlier descriptions may discuss a different planned structure. A May 2022 report interviewing the trail’s designer mentions a future raised walkway called Yulei Fuyun. Do not use that older project’s dimensions or completion expectations as specifications for the later Eling Skywalk. The shared cliff-trail setting does not make the structures interchangeable.

For your visit, treat the skywalk as an optional managed component. Find out where the route ends before entering, and decide where your companions will reunite if someone declines the elevated section. A person uncomfortable with heights should not feel obliged to enter merely because the bridge connects two parks. A ground-level alternative needs its own confirmed route; this guide does not invent a bypass around the entrance.

Check the later reservation rule, not opening-day advice

The complete reservation notice signed on November 22, 2025, published on the municipal government site on November 24, introduced online real-name reservations and flow controls from November 25. It supersedes the opening-day walk-in description. The notice names the 渝中公园 WeChat account and 鹅岭公园 mini-program as reservation channels.

For passport holders, the official notice specifies a different practical step: make the reservation at the visitor service point, then enter using the reservation QR code after the booking succeeds. Follow that published passport process rather than assuming you must fit a passport into a mainland identity-card form. This is the dated official procedure; no successful booking, live allocation or present service-point implementation was tested for this guide.

A December 29, 2025 operating notice adds a maintenance schedule effective from January 2026. It specifies all-day closure on Mondays, except national statutory holidays, and opening Tuesday–Sunday from 09:00 to 18:00, with entry ending at 17:40. These are the published baseline hours, not confirmation that the bridge is operating on your particular date.

Before travelling, check for later park-management announcements, holiday arrangements or weather-related restrictions. Confirm the passport service point and available reservation time before committing your day to the skywalk. Keep a shorter park visit as an alternative if a booking cannot be secured. The official procedure and schedule give you a concrete starting point without promising entry or a particular queue length.

Use the entrance direction to organize the day

The March 2026 WelcomeCQ advisory describes the skywalk as one-way and suggests approaching Fotuguan’s south gate from Eling station on Line 1. That supplies a practical starting enquiry. Confirm the current exit and walking approach with the station map, especially if you need lifts, because this guide has not tested that connection.

A manageable sequence is to reach the confirmed Fotuguan entrance, assess the queue and conditions, take the managed skywalk if your admission is valid, and finish in Eling Park. This is an editorial plan based on the documented direction, not a guarantee that every segment will be open. Avoid starting at the exit and expecting to walk backward against a one-way system.

If you would like to continue beyond the bridge, decide after completing it. Eling Park and the wider neighborhood are covered in our Eling Park and Testbed 2 guide. A longer outing should include the return transport and any additional ascent. Do not combine every named stop simply because an online itinerary places them in the same afternoon.

Read the hillside design while walking

The May 26, 2022 designer interview describes combining existing-path improvements with raised sections, including openings that leave room for mature trees. It also discusses historical-road interpretation along the route. These details give the walk meaning beyond the passing train: the infrastructure is negotiating a steep, already occupied landscape.

Look for places where the path changes its relationship with the ground. Notice a tree beside or through a deck, a retaining surface, or a viewpoint that opens between vegetation. You do not need to know engineering terminology to ask what has been preserved and what has been added. Stay on the public side of barriers; a visible hillside feature does not imply a safe way to reach it.

When interpreting carvings or historical displays, read the actual sign if accessible. Avoid assigning a dynasty, original function or restoration date from appearance alone. Some surfaces may be protected, obscured or unavailable during work. A closed side path is a reason to continue on the signed route, not a challenge to find the same carving from another direction.

Make railway photographs without depending on blossoms

The February 2022 city-management report links Fotuguan’s spring railway view with flowering hillside trees. That is a seasonal description. A green hillside, haze or bare branches on a different date is not a failed visit, and this guide does not promise a flowering window for 2026 or a clear skyline at a particular hour.

Choose a photograph that works with the conditions you find. Establish the view of track, vegetation and city, then wait from a permitted spot that leaves the walking line clear. If there is no room to stop safely, move on. Do not lean beyond barriers, enter railway land or step into planted areas to remove a branch from the frame. The railway is operating infrastructure, not part of a photo set.

A train may appear while you are looking elsewhere. Let it pass if changing position would obstruct someone. You can still photograph the landscape without a train, and you do not need an unpublished timetable to enjoy the scene. For the different experience of watching trains at the building-level viewing area, use the Liziba viewpoint guide and plan that stop separately.

Decide your comfort limit before the elevated section

The November 2025 construction-authority account describes a raised walkway following the hillside. Its published length does not measure your entire approach, queue, park visit or return. Allow for the experience as a whole, especially if someone is tired or uncomfortable with exposure.

This research has not established a continuously step-free route from a metro platform through the skywalk and onward to a street pickup. Ask about steps at both ends, the surface, resting opportunities and any temporary restrictions before bringing a wheelchair or relying on a stroller throughout. Do not translate broad promotional language about all-age use into a promise for a particular mobility need.

Carry water, use shoes suitable for walking and avoid a large bag that makes a narrow passage awkward. In rain, strong wind or poor visibility, follow staff instructions and reduce the outing. If the bridge is unavailable, choose a clearly open park section or leave; there is no need to turn a controlled closure into an improvised cliffside route. The day can still work with a shorter, more comfortable walk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Fotuguan Greenway the same as Eling Skywalk? A: Fotuguan’s paths belong to the wider Banshan cliff-trail network. The 460-metre Eling Skywalk is a specific managed connection between Fotuguan and Eling parks, with admission arrangements that need a separate check.

Q: Where does the Eling Skywalk route begin? A: The November 2025 official account locates entry beside Fotuguan Park’s south gate and exit beside Eling Park’s climbing corridor. WelcomeCQ’s March 2026 advisory describes one-way travel in that direction; confirm current signs before entering.

Q: How do passport visitors reserve Eling Skywalk, and when does it open? A: Eling Skywalk’s November 22, 2025 notice directs passport holders to reserve at the visitor service point and enter with the QR code after successful reservation. The December 29 notice, effective January 2026, specifies Monday closure except national statutory holidays, and Tuesday–Sunday opening from 09:00 to 18:00 with last entry at 17:40. Check later notices and available reservations for your date; these published rules do not confirm live entry.

Q: Will I see the spring-flower train view at Fotuguan? A: Fotuguan’s blossom-and-train scene is seasonal, as described in the February 2022 report. Flowers, visibility and a convenient passing train cannot be assumed for your date, so plan to enjoy the hillside landscape as it is.

Q: Is Fotuguan a step-free walk suitable for everyone? A: A complete step-free route through Fotuguan and the Eling Skywalk has not been verified here. Ask about the chosen entrance, both bridge ends and onward exit before relying on the route for a wheelchair, stroller or limited walking stamina.
