A free exhibition exploring Longgupo archaeology at Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum is scheduled to run through 3 January 2027. Opened on 29 September 2026, it occupies Temporary Exhibition Hall D on the fourth floor, according to the museum’s exhibition announcement.
What the exhibition explores
The Chinese title is 龙骨坡的故事——“巫山人”考古探秘, which visitors can save to show staff. The display traces research into Longgupo in Wushan and questions surrounding early humans. The museum lists animal fossils, stone artefacts and a reconstruction model of Lucy among its exhibits.
The announcement presents an investigation with continuing scientific questions. It should not be read as a declaration that every disputed fossil identification or theory about human origins has been settled.
For travellers, this is a temporary exhibition inside the museum in central Chongqing. Going to the Longgupo archaeological site would be a separate trip. If English interpretation is important to your visit, ask the museum what is available for this particular exhibition before travelling.
Entry and timing
The museum’s entry notice removed advance reservations from 1 October 2025. Visitors enter with a valid identity document, subject to crowd management. International visitors should bring their passport and ask staff where to complete the identity check; the announcement does not specify an automated foreign-passport procedure.
The museum’s standing visitor notice, dated 2018, lists 09:00–17:00, 16:00 last entry and normal Monday closure, except statutory holidays. A newer notice for a different exhibition gives a different last-entry time. This does not confirm a changed cutoff for Longgupo: arrive before 16:00 or ask the museum which arrangements apply to your visit.
Save the museum address, 重庆市渝中区人民路236号 (236 Renmin Road, Yuzhong District), with the exhibition title. The museum lists 023-63679066 / 023-63679067 for visitor enquiries.
At our online review on 23 October 2026 (China time), the original exhibition dates remained listed. No Longgupo cancellation or changed-date notice was found in the official exhibition and notification pages reviewed. This checks published information, not on-site operation; recheck before a journey specifically for the exhibition.
